September 12, 2007

The meeting began at 5:06 pm with everyone going around the table to introduce themselves.

Paul discussed new ideas for the semester such as having a breakfast meeting once a month. He also said that the T-shirt design will be released online next week.

We will be having the winter soirée at the end of the semester. If anyone knows of anyone who would like to be a sponsor, they should let Paul know.

  • Robert also discussed Bobby’s coming to LSU on September 21 in the Union Ballroom, but mentioned that it should be kept low profile for now
  • Anyone with any questions about volunteering can contact him, and Paul has his contact info.

John Roberts who is running for District 8 is looking for paid workers for $10 an hour.

On Saturday, Tulane will be hosting a door to door event for those who don’t have football tickets and are interested in going. They will be having a keg and free barbecue.

September 5, 2007

The meeting began at 7:00 pm in the LSU Union.

New Business:

Paul is trying to set up a meeting with the gubernatorial candidates. He is also working on a possible basketball game between the College Republicans and College Democrats.

Everyone at the meeting took turns introducing themselves and their particular area of interest in politics.

Paul brought up the idea of the club filming a question for YouTube for the Republican debates. Smoot mentioned that there are cameras in the Mass Comm building that we could use to film the question if we decide we’d like to do this.

Melissa went over each of the club committees to find out which members are interested in each committee:

  • Campaigns: Caitlin Denison, Phil Shrout
  • Fundraising: Stephen Butterfield
  • Membership: John Veazey

Paul asked what times are good for having meetings. The general consensus seemed to be for Wednesdays at 5.

Paul also asked everyone present to try to bring a friend with them to next week’s meeting.

All the new members present agreed to be a part of the leadership team. They will be added to the email list and invited to take part in the telephone conferences.

Paul will send an email in the next few days to keep everyone up to date.

Updates:

T-shirt orders will hopefully be made early next week.

The meeting adjourned with a meeting scheduled for next Wednesday, September 12 at 5:00 pm.

Telephone Conference Meeting Minutes

The telephone conference began at 9:00 pm.

Present on the call were:

  • Paul
  • Melissa
  • Patrick
  • Stephen
  • Smoot
  • RJ
  • Amanda

New Business:

For the first week of school, table sits were planned for Thursday and Friday. On Thursday, Paul and RJ will be able to sit. On Friday, Melissa, Amanda, and Patrick will be able to sit at the table.

Melissa talked to someone at Marsala Beverage. The owners are apparently big Republicans and she has a call in to the big guy there.

Paul spoke to the Jindal campaign about sponsoring t-shirts.

Another student organization, Pi Sigma Alpha, is interested in co-hosting a gubernatorial debate on campus because they are not big enough to put it on by themselves. First we will try to contact the candidates and try to set up a debate. Then we might talk to the College Democrats and the honor society about co-hosting. October 1-3 would be good dates to have the debate.  The Cox Center would probably be the best place to hold a debate, and we could possibly partner with Tiger TV to show it in the Union Theater for overflow audience.

Paul gave Stephen the phone number of Chuck Carpenter to work on planning visits to the Greek houses.

Smoot will help Paul work on the debate.

The meeting adjourned at 9:27 pm with the meeting still scheduled for next Wednesday, September 5.

August 26, 2007

Present at Meeting:

  • Paul Dietzel
  • Melissa Woolridge
  • Stephen Martinez
  • Patrick Polk
  • Amanda McGowen

The meeting began at 7:00 pm at CC’s on Burbank.

New Business:

Paul brought up holding a tailgate with candidates, perhaps Bobby Jindal, at one of the big football games. The Virginia Tech and Florida games were decided on as the most likely games for a tailgate.

We also discussed having a College Republican pub crawl in either October or early November. Melissa will get in touch with someone at Abita to find out how they held their pub crawl.

Paul also brought up the idea of holding our soirée in December this year, instead of in the spring. It will likely cost around $1500.

Melissa reported what she found out from the owner at Fred’s, and we will try to plan a back to school party at Fred’s or another bar in Tigerland on Thurs. September 20 or Thurs. September 27.

Someone will try to find out the times for the fraternity/sorority meetings so that we can visit the Greek houses next week.

The meeting was adjourned with another meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 5 at 5:00 pm at LSU.

New Business:

Paul proposed changing club dues from $5/year to $5/semester for regular members. The motion was seconded by Smoot and the vote passed unanimously.

A motion was also proposed to change dues for premium members to $15/semester, which also includes a club t-shirt. The motion was seconded by Stephen and the vote passed unanimously.

A vote was held in favor of sending out the design concept for the club t-shirt after a meeting with the t-shirt company.

Fall Semester Ideas:

Possible back to school events were discussed such as a Fred’s Stomp Back to School Bash with the College Republicans. Melissa will speak with the owner, but there are complications due to the over 21 requirement. Bogie’s and Walk On’s were also mentioned as possible venues.

Paul will make the calendar on the website accessible to the officers to add any important political events or LSU events that would have an effect on College Republicans. The address will be calendar.lsucr.com.

The Student Organization Fair will be held September 6 in Free Speech Alley. Paul will go by the CSLI office in Johnston Hall to pay/reserve a table.

Paul asked all officers to email class schedules to him to know when each person will be available.

We will hold table sits in Free Speech Alley next week. As of now, the days will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Because of the construction at the union, Paul brought up the idea of having our meetings in a different location on campus. Meeting rooms in the PMAC and Lod Cook are possibilities, but we will have to find out if there is a cost to use those rooms.

Paul also brought up the idea of changing the regular Wednesday night meeting to other nights like Mondays and Tuesdays, and also adding in a few daytime meetings or rallies.

Adjournment:

The meeting concluded around 9:45 pm. Another meeting was scheduled for this Sunday, August 26, at 7:00 pm at the CC’s on Burbank near Walk On’s.
