Shreveport’s 3,000-seat Gold Dome was filled to capacity Friday as President Bush fielded questions about Social Security from four panelists, including a LSU College Republicans.
About 25 College Republicans joined the supportive crowd that welcomed Bush as he concluded his two-day tour of the southern United States to tout his plan to privatize Social Security.
Sarah Joy Hays, a communication studies senior, was selected to represent young adults from a pool of candidates.
Her name was entered after College Republican President Colorado Robertson was informed the White House was looking for young adults whose grandparents receive Social Security benefits.
Hays, who underwent two extensive background checks and an interview with White House advisers prior to being accepted, described the forum as somewhat relaxed. She said she and the president joked about her job at the Gap and her weekly Social Security-pay deduction.
Aside from attending Bush’s forum, group members also were on scene to counter-protest the protesters who demonstrated outside the Gold Dome.
